Information about Illegal Street Drugs
While there is an almost endless list of drugs that can be abused, these are ones that we see most often in our Narconon centers:
Marijuana: the most widely used illegal substance in the world today. Its use is also the most controversial.
Methamphetamine: a powerful stimulant that activates certain systems in the brain. It is closely related chemically to amphetamine, but the central nervous system effects of methamphetamine are greater.
MDMA/Ecstasy: an illegally manufactured variation of mescaline and amphetamine. It is considered a designer drug. Use and abuse of Ecstasy is on the rise.
Cocaine and Crack Cocaine: a highly addictive form of cocaine that is inexpensive to produce and buy. Evidence shows that when cocaine and crack are smoked (as opposed to other methods), there is increased risk of addiction.
Heroin: a highly addictive drug derived from morphine, which is obtained from the opium poppy. It is a “downer” or depressant that affects the brain’s pleasure systems and interferes with the brain’s ability to perceive pain.

Narconon graduates don't have to live one day at a time - they are fully recovered. Our addiction treatment program rids the body of drug residues, stops the cravings and addresses the reason why they took drugs in the first place.
